Com-Net Software to Provide Flight Information at Denver International Airport

Com-Net Software announced today that it has entered into a contract with Denver International Airport (DIA) to install its ECLIPSX® Flight Information Display System 5.0.

“We recognize the significance of Denver in this industry as a progressive and technically sophisticated operation,” said Com-Net President and CFO Dave Michaels. “That we were selected to provide this critical system validates our investment in technology and service, and it makes us extremely proud of our team.”

“The deployment at Denver will be a passenger communication showcase for the airline industry,” said Chance Fultz, vice president product development. “They have approximately 950 LCD-TFT flat panels and another 800 LED signs. So, not only will flight information be ubiquitous and readily available, but the airport will have total control over visual messaging”

The ECLIPSX system at DIA features multiple visual messaging modes and each display will be assigned to perform a certain way during each mode. For example, in emergency mode, such as an evacuation, the information can be conveyed to every display in the airport, whereas weather-related delays may only be broadcast in the top left monitor in every bank of monitors in the airport. “This is the kind of flexibility and display content control we have been seeking for some time,” said Jim Miller, Manager of Passenger Information Systems. “Our new flight data system will provide content from all the airlines to ECLIPSX for display throughout the airport. But in addition, we will be using ECLIPSX to deliver visual paging, gate information displays and basically any dynamic signage we can justify delivering through a single system.”

System availability is an issue that DIA feels very strongly about. “We are very eager to step up to a modern software system that will remain operational all day every day of the week. The streamlined deployment of ECLIPSX on just two servers will greatly reduce our preventive maintenance and incident management costs. There are many new initiatives under way to improve the customer experience at Denver International Airport. ECLIPSX will allow us to move DIA into the next generation of MUFIDS presentation software and displays,” said Miller. “The openness and flexibility of our design allows us to meet the needs of DIA,” said Fultz. “ECLIPSX will run in a multi server virtual environment utilizing the latest in Storage Area Network (SAN) technology resulting in a highly available system. They will also deploy the latest in solid state thin-client computing technology to drive the displays, another example of the progressive and cutting-edge approach that Denver has taken”.

The project is scheduled for 90 days and is estimated to be complete in the third quarter.

Denver International Airport is the 6th busiest airport in the United States and 11th in the world. More than 47million passengers moved through DIA on 30 airlines in 2006, a 9.1% increase over 2005. For more information, visit Denver International Airport online at www.flydenver.com.
